< img src="https://edugist.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/FB_IMG_1781936148378.jpg"alt =""> A 300-level law trainee of the University of Ibadan, identified as Tomisin, has been abducted while returning from a religious conference in Imo State.

The abduction was confirmed by the institution’s Trainees’ Union Government (SUG), which divulged that the student was among eight people who went missing after going to the Scripture Union National Conference held at the Camp of Faith in Okigwe, Imo State.

In a declaration issued on Friday, SUG President, Temidayo Adeboye, stated Tomisin, who functions as the National Secretary of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship and Vice-President of the fellowship’s UI chapter, was travelling with the National General Director of the Scripture Union Trainee Fellowship, Uwem Cosmos, and other conference participants when the event happened.

Adeboye clarified that contrary to reports flowing on social media, only one student of the University of Ibadan is associated with the event.

“The union has actually started the essential engagements to establish the realities surrounding the situation and has actually communicated with relevant spiritual organisations and security agencies to assist in suitable intervention,” he stated.

“We wish to clarify that reports claiming that 8 UI trainees are missing out on are inaccurate. Tomisin is the only University of Ibadan student presently unaccounted for in the event.”

According to him, issues over the student’s whereabouts intensified after she stopped working to sit for her professors examinations set up for Monday and Tuesday. He included that another student from the university’s Department of Music who went to the conference had actually safely returned.

Likewise speaking on the matter, the university’s Director of Public Relations, Joke Akinpelu, validated that the organization understood the occurrence, although it was not formally informed about the journey before the trainee took a trip.

Akinpelu stated the abduction occurred on Saturday and repeated that Tomisin was the only University of Ibadan student impacted.

“The student left the university without formally informing the organization of her destination,” she stated.

As of the time of filing this report, the Imo State Police Command had yet to issue an official declaration relating to the event.
