Academic and non-academic employees in Gombe State-owned tertiary organizations have actually started a two-week caution strike over unsolved well-being concerns and supposed failure by the state government to satisfy their outstanding needs.

According to a communiqué provided after a joint conference of the unions on Wednesday, the warning strike worked from midnight on September 2, 2026.
The affected unions include the Colleges of Education Academic Personnel Union, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Senior Personnel Union of Colleges of Education in Nigeria, Senior Citizen Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions.
The unions had previously offered the Gombe State Federal government a 14-day notice on August 17 to deal with a number of outstanding staff welfare issues.
However, they said the deadline expired on August 31 with no concrete action or satisfactory action from the federal government.
The joint union stated it was entrusted to no option but to continue with the alerting strike after waiting for the federal government to address the concerns raised.
It stated that the two-week action was meant to draw attention to the unsettled problems and offer the government another opportunity to intervene.
The unions cautioned that the dispute could lead to a major indefinite strike if their needs stayed unsettled at the end of the warning action.

According to the communiqué, the government must demonstrate a clear commitment towards dealing with the problems and begin executing the impressive demands before the expiration of the 14-day strike.
