The Lagos State Education District I has successfully staged its 2026 Yearly Sports Festival in a colourful and energetic screen of unity, discipline, and youthful quality at the Dairy Farm School Complex.

The event combined students, teachers, and dignitaries from throughout the district in a dynamic environment that highlighted the importance of sports in holistic education and community structure.

At the centre of the celebration was the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I, Dr. Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, whose presence and active participation set the tone for the unforgettable festival. Providing her welcome address, she warmly got guests and acknowledged noteworthy characters, including former Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Modupe David, Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Mrs. Busari, as well as Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun.

Speaking on the significance of the celebration, Dr. Oyetola stressed the function of sports in forming well-rounded people.

“Sports remain a powerful tool for youth empowerment, discipline, and unity. I motivate all participants to take on integrity, fairness, and a spirit of togetherness,” she stated.

One of the standout moments of the celebration was the grand parade, where trainees from Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, and Alimosho displayed impressive coordination, discipline, and cultural pride. In a symbolic program of leadership, Dr. Oyetola joined the trainees on the parade ground, marching together with them in a gesture that drew extensive adoration and excitement.

The competitions commenced with high energy, including thrilling occasions such as the 100-meter junior race, 800-meter race, and a captivating football match that showcased teamwork and tactical sparkle. A significant highlight was the high table relay race, where Dr. Oyetola demonstrated extraordinary dexterity and emerged in very first position, earning loud applause from spectators.

At the end of the contests, Agege clinched the total very first position with an exceptional performance. Ifako-Ijaiye finished as first runner-up, while Alimosho secured second runner-up, with all groups commended for their sportsmanship and resilience.

The celebration concluded with expressions of gratitude to organisers, staff, and trainees whose efforts ensured its success. Beyond competition, the 2026 Education District I Sports Celebration stuck out as a celebration of unity, leadership, and quality within the Lagos education community.
