Academic activities at the University of Jos have actually been disrupted as speakers started an indefinite strike following the non-payment of their March 2026 incomes.
The Chairman of the university’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof. Jurbe Molwus, confirmed the advancement in Jos on Wednesday, specifying that members would withdraw their services up until the exceptional wages are settled.
According to him, the commercial action worked on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, with lecturers suspending all scholastic duties.
In a notice distributed amongst members, the union expressed frustration over the delay, attributing the concern to the Workplace of the Accountant-General of the Federation.
The statement, signed by the branch management, directed lecturers to halt all main responsibilities, consisting of lectures, evaluations, and statutory meetings, till payment is made.
It noted that the action aligns with resolutions reached by the union’s National Executive Council in addition to choices taken at the branch level.
The union further explained that initial findings suggested the delay did not originate from the university, as its bursary department had reportedly completed the needed wage processing.
ASUU criticised what it described as neglect for speakers’ welfare, warning that continued delays could weaken industrial stability within the organization.
Members were advised to comply fully with the strike directive, with the union suggesting that a monitoring group would be released to ensure adherence.
The commercial action is anticipated to impact academic activities at the institution till the issue is dealt with.
