ABUJA, NIGERIA– Ms Amra Salihu, a 500-level Professors of Law student at the University of Abuja, has become the total winner of the 9th Inter-Universities Speech Contest arranged by the Intergovernmental Action Group Against Cash Laundering in West Africa (GIABA).

The regional victory was officially announced in an executive declaration provided on Thursday, July 23, 2026, by the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Mr Habib Yakoob.

Outperforming West African Rivals in Freetown

The prominent speech contest occurred on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Ms. Salihu made the sole slot to represent Nigeria on the worldwide stage after emerging triumphant in the rigorous national choice trial performed by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

At the local finals in Freetown, the Nigerian representative provided a remarkable performance, defeating leading trainee orators representing universities from The Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Ghana to protect the sought after West African title.

Mentorship and Institutional Awards

For her stellar efficiency, Ms. Salihu was awarded the champion’s plaque, an official certificate of honor, and a cash prize of 1,000 United States Dollars.

The university delegation likewise consisted of another 500-level law trainee, Abah Goodness, who attended the occasion as an official trainee observer.

The trainee team went through intensive preparation prior to the competition, receiving scholastic training from the Director of the UniAbuja Law Clinic, Dr Nasiru Mukhtar, together with technical training support supplied by Mr. J. R. Gogol of the NFIU.

Praising the trainee delegation, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Fawehinmi, revealed immense pride in the law faculty’s ongoing track record of quality on global platforms.
