The Universal Basic Education Commission has approved the disbursement of N10.61 bn to fund renovation of public schools, total continuous projects, and execute a fresh effort focused on keeping kids in school nationwide.
The package consists of N5.18 bn under the 2025 School-Based Management Committee– School Enhancement Program, N434.5 m as last payments for the 2023 and 2024 stages, and N5bn reserve for a freshly introduced Learners’ Retention Programme.
UBEC Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical), Rasaq Akinyemi, divulged this on Thursday in Abuja throughout the nationwide launch of the 2025 SBMC-SIP.
She said the interventions show the Federal Government’s willpower to improve access to quality standard education, upgrade knowing facilities, and tackle the challenge of out-of-school children.
Garba described that 518 neighborhoods throughout the 36 states and the Federal Capital Area would benefit under the 2025 programme, with 14 schools picked in each state.
According to her, the funds will be used to fix up worn-out class blocks, offer furniture, and improve water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities in public schools.
She added that given that the program started, 1,112 schools across the country have benefited, with more than 13,670 projects executed and about 400,000 learners getting from much better school environments.
Garba even more stated that the N434.5 m last tranche for the 2023 and 2024 cycles would support the completion of 11,484 continuous tasks nationwide.
She kept in mind that the current disbursement would help beneficiary schools conclude pending works and sustain earlier accomplishments.
The UBEC employer stated application would be performed through awareness campaigns, verification, training, and monitoring in collaboration with State Universal Basic Education Boards and School-Based Management Committees to make sure accountability.
She also revealed the start of the Learners’ Retention Programme, designed to resolve social and economic aspects driving school dropouts.
According to her, the effort will reach one million pupils throughout eight states in its first stage, backed by a N5bn allowance.
The program is expected to support vulnerable households, boost school presence, and motivate conclusion of fundamental education.

Chairman of the UBEC Board, Umaru Al-Makura, stated the success of the interventions would depend mainly on active community involvement.
He prompted local committees to handle the resources properly, maintain appropriate records, and comply fully with task specs.
Representing the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, Director of Basic Education, Folake Davies, stated the programmes line up with nationwide education concerns and global development targets.
She kept in mind that the efforts would assist complete unfinished projects, enhance learning conditions, and reinforce efforts to reduce the number of kids out of school.
UBEC stated the combined programs show its strategy of improving school facilities while attending to non-financial barriers to education as the nation seeks better outcomes in the basic education sector.
