< img src="https://edugist.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/IMG_2131.jpeg" alt ="" > A Delta State High Court being in Ogwashi-Uku has sentenced two males, Macaulay Desmond Oghenemaro and Enaike Onoriode, to death by hanging for the 2019 kidnapping and routine murder of Elozino Joshualia Ogege, a 300-level Mass Communication student of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka.
Justice Plants Ngozi Azinge provided the judgment on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, after finding the defendants guilty of conspiracy to dedicate kidnapping, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit murder, and murder.
The prosecution informed the court that Ogege, a first-class student, was enticed under the guise of satisfying an agent who would help her secure off-campus accommodation. She was subsequently abducted and killed in what prosecutors described as a routine killing connected to suspected internet scams activities.
During the trial, the convicted guys apparently gave confessional declarations detailing how the victim was mutilated before her death. Prosecutors declared that parts of her body, including her eyes, breasts and heart, were gotten rid of for ritual functions.
A 3rd offender, Nwosisi Benedict Uche, was released and acquitted by the court, while a fourth accused, native medical professional Robinson Obajero Ojokojo, died during the course of the trial.
The case, which began in 2019, experienced several delays and adjournments, mostly due to the duplicated absence of counsel representing the first offender. Proceedings ultimately resumed, culminating in the adoption of last written addresses earlier this year.
In her judgment, Justice Azinge held that the prosecution had shown its case beyond affordable doubt and sentenced Oghenemaro and Onoriode to death by hanging for the murder of Ogege.
Reacting to the decision, the Delta State Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Omamuzo Erebe (SAN), who led the prosecution group, explained the judgment as a landmark triumph for justice.
