President Bola Tinubu has actually sent the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2026 to the Senate, seeking its expedited passage as part of efforts to enhance the administration and governance of public senior secondary education across Nigeria.
The President’s demand was included in a letter read throughout Thursday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
According to Tinubu, the proposed change costs was authorized by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at its conference on April 30, 2026, before being vetted and finalised by the Federal Ministry of Justice in line with constitutional and legislative preparing requirements.
He explained that the legislation is designed to reinforce the legal structure and operational capacity of the National Elder Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), enhance the governance of public senior secondary schools, and boost learning outcomes nationwide.
“The function of the bill is to enhance the administration and governance of public senior secondary education in Nigeria,” the President stated in the letter.
Tinubu noted that the modification lines up with his administration’s dedication to constructing more powerful universities in support of nationwide advancement and appealed to legislators to approve the costs sped up consideration.
Following the presentation, Senate President Akpabio referred the costs to the Senate Committee on Rules and Organization for legislative processing and directed the committee to report back to the chamber within one week.
The National Senior Citizen Secondary Education Commission was established to coordinate the advancement of public senior secondary education, enhance standards, and assistance states through policy coordination, funding interventions, and quality control.
