ILORIN, KWARA STATE– Calm has been brought back to the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, following a period of intense tension and student unrest on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
The interruption was activated by reports of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives performing an operation in the vicinity, which stimulated fears of a mass arrest amongst the trainee population.
The discontent led to a spontaneous protest at the organization’s main gate, where trainees set fire to tyres along portions of the Old Jebba Roadway, temporarily stopping vehicular movement and producing a sense of panic across the scholastic neighborhood.

Spontaneous Protest The discontent started soon after trainees resumed academic activities. According to eyewitness accounts and viral social networks video, the sight of armed operatives led many to believe a school raid was underway.
One video supposedly illustrated an officer in pursuit of a trainee, an image that quickly circulated through trainee messaging groups and heightened the cumulative stress and anxiety.

Management Clarification and Security Intervention
In a speedy response to the intensifying situation, the polytechnic management appointed its representative, Halimat Garba, to remedy what it described as a misunderstanding of the occasions.
The management clarified that the EFCC operation did not happen within the polytechnic’s walls but was localised to the nearby Agbede village.
Key Points from the Authorities Statement:
-
Location of Event: The operation occurred in Agbede town, not on the school campus.
-
Trainee Safety: Management confirmed that no students were arrested during the workout.
-
Containment: The scenario was brought under control through the “professional intervention” of combined security companies and the school’s internal security personnel.
-
Academic Continuity: Despite the morning’s interruptions, set up evaluations continued as planned.
Current Status of Old Jebba Road
Following the dispersal of the protesters and the cleaning of the bonfires, authorities have verified that the Old Jebba Roadway is as soon as again safe for travel.
Security presence stays increased in the area to avoid any reprisal actions or more assembly that could threaten public peace.
Efforts to reach the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC for an official discuss the nature of the operation in Agbede village were not successful at the time of this report.
