LAGOS, NIGERIA– Following months of strenuous intellectual brief-writing and intense courtroom simulation, the Professors of Law, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has actually become the winner of the maiden Streamsowers & Köhn (SSK) Moot Court Competitors.

The grand ending, which occurred on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in Lagos, saw OAU go head-to-head in an oral advocacy fight against Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

The competitors was organised by the full-service law practice, Streamsowers & Köhn, as a landmark Corporate Social Obligation (CSR) initiative to celebrate its 20th anniversary by investing heavily in the professional grooming of Nigerian student-lawyers.

Blind Evaluations Whittle Down 17 Law Faculties

The national competitors started months ago with 17 universities drawn from Nigeria’s 6 geopolitical zones submitting detailed composed memorials on complex, multi-layered concerns in law.

To ensure absolute transparency and meritocracy, senior law speakers from various universities acted as independent assessors using a rigorous blind review procedure.

“The assessors were completely unaware of which university had actually submitted any of the memorials they scored,” discussed one of the SSK Partners, Tamuno Atekebo. “No indicators whatsoever. This removed any potential predisposition of an assessor favouring an institution they identified.”

While the top two groups, OAU and BUK, advanced to clash for the grand reward, the other finalists were recognised for their outstanding efficiency.

UNIABUJA was represented by the counsel pair of Orelope Abdulbasit and Sidiq Abdulsalam Ope; UNILAG by Shallom Osibodu and Taiwo Adeyeye Samuel; and UNICAL by the duo of Oga Agatha Ushang and Cyriacus Emmanuel.

High-Stakes Oral Advocacy Before Real Judges

The grand ending transitioned from written arguments to live courtroom theatrics. OAU’s lead counsel team, comprising Ase Hephzibah Adiamologi and Olawole Olamilekan Ogidan, participated in a strong legal fight against BUK’s legal team, Isah Garba Bala and Farouk Sani Gwarzo.

While the administering panel of judges averred that BUK technically won the benefits of the particular case being argued, OAU outscored their opponents on overall delivery, procedural compliance, and courtroom rules to become the total competition champs. OAU’s lead counsel, Ase Hephzibah Adiamologi, was adjudged the Best Advocate of the whole nationwide competition.

Reflecting on the firm’s motivation for launching the competitors, a founding partner of Streamsowers & Köhn, Mr Etigwe Uwa (SAN), noted that the workout aims to replicate the mentorship they received in their early professions.

“Putting law trainees in a practical court setting where they promote cases before genuine judges inspires and inspires them to pursue professional quality,” he mentioned.

Concurrently, SSK Partners Chinasa Unaegbunam (SAN) and Vincent Owhor commended the extraordinary quality shown by the participants.

They stressed that the tournament functions as a vital incubator where striving advocates learn to evaluate complex legal problems under real pressure, showing that the future of the Nigerian legal occupation remains remarkably brilliant.
