opened entries for the National Essay Competitors 2026. The competition is set to build emergency preparedness, disaster awareness, and resilience among Nigeria’s youth. Senior Secondary School

Trainees in tertiary organizations
Topic: “Climate Change and Catastrophe Management in Nigeria”
NYSC “Emergency Situation Management Vanguards” corps members
Topic: “Innovation for Disaster Action: Opportunities and Difficulties”
Prize money for winners
Winners will receive cash prizes in 3 locations:
- First Place: N500,000
- First Runner Up: N300,000
- 2nd Runner Up: N200,000
That reward list is clear, and it gives each classification real weight.
Submission rules and eligibility
Interested individuals need to follow the specified guidelines for their entries to count.
Format for essays
Entries must be sent as a Word document in Times New Roman, size 12 font style.
Word count
- Senior Secondary School category: optimum 500 words
- All other categories: optimum 1,000 words
Entry limitation
Only one entry is enabled per individual.
Information to consist of
Each entry needs to carry the individual’s complete name, category, and details of school or NYSC implementation.

How NEMA will examine entries
The evaluating requirements follow a weighted scale:
- 40% for content significance and depth
- 30% for originality and imagination
- 30% for structure, grammar, and style
