The National Association of Nigerian Trainees (NANS) has secured the release of all apprehended trainees of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, following an intervention by the association to make sure that the impacted students participate in their continuous examinations.
The intervention was led by the National Financial Secretary of NANS, Associate Alao John Oluwadamilola, together with the Student Union President of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Pal Fagbemi Nurudeen Ojo, and other members of the students’ union cabinet.
The NANS management engaged appropriate authorities after receiving concerns over the detention of the students, with the intervention mostly focused on protecting their academic interests.
According to the association, the trainees’ detention could have jeopardised their academic progress, particularly as evaluations were continuous and the affected students had prepared to sit for them.
Following the engagement, all the detained trainees were released, enabling them to return to the institution and participate in their evaluations.
NANS applauded the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), particularly the Zonal Director, ACE I Haauwa Garba Ringim, for its understanding and consideration of the trainees’ scholastic interests.
The association stated the development showed the importance of constructive engagement in between student management and security and law-enforcement companies.
While acknowledging the requirement for genuine examinations and the continued fight against monetary criminal activities, NANS urged that such processes should, where possible, be dealt with in a manner that does not needlessly disrupt students’ education and scholastic development.
The association likewise appreciated the management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and other people who contributed to the release of the students and their go back to their examinations.
