LAGOS, Nigeria– The Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, is set to finish an overall of 20,604 students at its upcoming 29th and 30th combined convocation events, celebrating graduands across the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
Attending to press executives at a rundown hung on school ahead of the week-long convocation activities, the Vice-Chancellor, Teacher Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, disclosed that the finishing cohorts comprise diploma, first degree, and postgraduate trainees.
She discussed that combining both sessions became essential to clear graduation stockpiles and line up with adjustments made to the university’s scholastic calendar.
Session Breakdown and Academic Accomplishments
The scholastic performance metrics released by the university management emphasize substantial academic accomplishments throughout both scholastic years.
2024/2025 Academic Session
Diploma Classification: 947 overall graduates (65 Distinction, 521 Upper Credit, 354 Lower Credit, and 7 Pass).
First Degree Classification: 7,621 total graduates (262 First Class, 3,155 Second Class Upper, 3,439 Second Class Lower, 622 Third Class, and 37 Pass degrees).
Total Best Trainee: Ayilara Lawal Olawale of the Department of Project Management became the Overall Best Finishing Trainee for the session with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.96.

2025/2026 Academic Session
Diploma Classification: 44 total graduates (33 Upper Credit and 11 Lower Credit).
First Degree Category: 8,653 total graduates (232 First Class, 3,545 2nd Class Upper, 4,157 2nd Class Lower, 678 Third Class, and 31 Pass degrees).
Total Best Student: Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide of the Department of Aerospace Engineering became the Overall Best Graduating Student for the session, completing with a CGPA of 4.97.
Postgraduate Degrees and Distinguished Honours
An overall of 3,383 postgraduate degrees will be provided throughout both sessions. The breakdown consists of 618 Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,508 Academic Master’s degrees, 900 Expert Master’s degrees, 238 Physician of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, and 119 Professional Doctoral degrees.
In addition, LASU will bestow honorary doctorate degrees upon 3 prominent Nigerian figures in recognition of their contributions to nationwide advancement, they consist of:
Akin Kekere-Ekun: Physician of Organization (Honoris Causa) for accomplishments in entrepreneurship, financing, and institutional management.
Dr. Harriet-Ann Omobola Adesola: Honorary Doctorate for contributions to corporate finance and governance.
Alhaji Aliko Dangote: Honorary Doctorate for influence on industrialization, international entrepreneurship, and human capital development.
Additionally, the university will formally raise 2 internal scholars– Teacher Rafiu Olaoluwa Okuneye and Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, to the rank of Differentiated Professors in acknowledgment of their research study, teaching, and scholastic mentorship records.
Schedule of Convocation Activities
The week-long convocation events begin today with a personnel sports competition and the inaugural staff celebration day.
The main schedule of occasions includes:
Friday, August 14: Traditional coconut-breaking ceremony, Cultural Day activities, and the convocation Jumat service.
Monday, August 17: Conferment of diplomas, first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, and Master’s degrees in Engineering and Agricultural Sciences at the Epe Campus.
Tuesday, August 18: The Convocation Lecture, entitled “From LASU to the World: Utilizing the Nigerian Diaspora as the Seventh Region for National Development,” to be delivered by the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
Wednesday, August 19: Conferment of Expert and Academic Doctorate degrees, together with the award of Honorary Doctorate degrees and Identified Professorships at the Main School in Ojo.
