The Lagos State Federal government has actually commenced the distribution of tablet gadgets to junior secondary schools across the state as part of efforts to deepen technology-driven education and reinforce data-based preparation in the education sector.
The initiative, carried out through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education under the Better Education Service Shipment for All (BESDA) Program, was formally launched during a discussion event held at the ministry’s conference room in Alausa, Ikeja.
BESDA is a collective programme of the World Bank and the Federal Ministry of Education, carried out through the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), to enhance education management and promote evidence-based decision-making in participating states.
Speaking at the occasion, the Director of Task, Planning and Research Study, Mr. Opeyemi Martins, disclosed that every junior secondary school participating in the program would receive 30GB of month-to-month data from Airtel to help with internet connectivity and support effective mentor, discovering and school administration.
Martins noted that the provision of web data would match the deployment of the tablets by ensuring that schools have the digital resources needed for efficient information management and improved instructional service delivery.
Likewise speaking, the Director of Standard Education Services, Mrs. Toyin Oyedele, prompted school administrators and teachers to secure the devices, worrying that the tablets stay federal government residential or commercial property.
She described that the devices are institutional possessions and need to be turned over to followers whenever principals or teachers are moved to another school.
Stakeholders at the ceremony explained the initiative as a major turning point in the state’s drive towards digital improvement in education, keeping in mind that the tablets would improve information collection, monitoring, reporting and planning, while improving learning results throughout public schools.
According to the ministry, 160 tablet gadgets were dispersed throughout the first phase of the rollout to designated junior secondary schools throughout Lagos State. The programme is anticipated to be broadened to all junior secondary schools in subsequent stages.
The federal government stated the effort reflects its commitment, together with the World Bank, the Federal Ministry of Education and UBEC, to leveraging innovation to strengthen education management, enhance responsibility and support evidence-based policy formulation.
It included that the BESDA Programme is expected to boost education management processes and equip schools with the digital tools needed to provide more effective, transparent and sustainable academic services throughout Lagos State.
