Miss Huda Suleman was called the total finest prospect, clinching the leading reward and receiving the Augustus Bandele Oyediran Award for the Best Prospect in West Africa for 2025. She was followed by Miss Paula Suwo in 2nd place, while Miss Matthea Aba Andoh protected 3rd position.
The annual meeting, which combines representatives from WAEC’s five member countries, also included leadership modifications within the council. Ghana’s Chief Government Nominee, Prof Ernest Davis, was elected Vice Chairman for a 1 year term, being successful Liberia’s Amos Fully.
The event was officially declared open by Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, who was represented by Vice President Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
In his address, Mahama applauded WAEC for over 7 years of service, noting its function in preserving academic standards and cultivating cooperation among West African countries. Also speaking, Ghana’s Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, represented by Deputy Minister Dr Clement Apaak, highlighted the importance of evaluations in developing both intellectual and practical competencies required for national advancement. He further divulged that Ghana would rejoin the worldwide version of the WASSCE start from the 2026 examination cycle.
During the occasion, WAEC honoured Prof William Asomaning of Ghana as an Identified Buddy of Council in recognition of his contributions to the organisation.
The conference also included the 31st Yearly Endowment Fund Lecture, themed “Fostering Evaluation Stability within the Context of Credentialism,” provided by Teacher George K. T. Oduro.
WAEC revealed that Nigeria will host the 75th edition of its Annual Council Fulfilling in March 2027, following Ghana’s hosting of the 2026 event.
