
The Federal government has actually inaugurated Nigeria’s first Production Innovation University Innovation Pod (Manu-Tech UniPod) at the Michael Okpara University of Farming, Umudike in Abia State, marking a significant action towards strengthening innovation, production, entrepreneurship, and commercial advancement in the nation.
The pioneering job is a collaborative initiative including the Federal Government, the United Nations Advancement Programme, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, and the Abia State Government.
Representing Vice President Kashim Shettima at the inauguration, the Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, said the facility of the Manu-Tech UniPod highlights the Federal Government’s dedication to changing Nigerian universities into centres of development, entrepreneurship, research commercialisation, and sustainable job development.
According to the minister, universities need to progress beyond their traditional roles of teaching and research to become drivers for enterprise advancement, technology transfer, and commercial competitiveness. He kept in mind that the effort lines up with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to construct a $1 trillion Nigerian economy by 2030 through innovation-driven growth and economic diversity.
Governor Alex Otti described the decision to find the nation’s first Manu-Tech UniPod in Abia State as a vote of self-confidence in the state’s growing track record as a centre for production, industrialisation, and economic prosperity. He stated the facility would further position the state as a strategic center for innovation and enterprise in the region.
Speaking at the occasion, Ahunna Eziakonwa, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General, described the Innovation Pod as a platform created to unlock the creativity, ingenuity, and innovative capacity of Africa’s youth, enabling them to develop options that address pressing socio-economic challenges.
Also speaking, Elsie Attafuah, Local Agent of the UNDP in Nigeria, stated the initiative complements the organisation’s wider vision of structure Africa’s biggest development ecosystem by supporting start-ups, technology-driven business, and high-growth endeavors throughout the continent.
The Vice-Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Farming, Umudike, Ursula Akanwa, described the inauguration as a landmark accomplishment for the organization. She stated the center would considerably enhance the university’s mandate in science, technology, production, research, innovation, and enterprise advancement.
