The Federal government has welcomed the suspension of the teachers’ strike in Oyo State, explaining the advancement as a significant victory for discussion, collaboration and the education of Nigerian children.

In a declaration released by the Federal Ministry of Education on Wednesday, the government stated the resolution followed sustained engagement between the ministry, the Oyo State Federal Government and the Nigeria Union of Educators (NUT) at the nationwide, zonal and state levels, paving the way for teachers to return to classrooms and bring back undisturbed knowing across the state.

Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, stated the effective resolution reflected the cumulative dedication of all stakeholders to prioritise the interests, safety and future of learners.

“I am pleased to report today that the strike has been suspended. Teachers are now returning to school to educate their trainees. This is the outcome of our partnership and coordination with the management of the National Union of Teachers and the Federal Government of Oyo State,” he stated.

The minister applauded Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as well as the leadership of the NUT for their roles in fixing the conflict through dialogue. He also praised the Oyo State Wing of the union and its executive members for demonstrating statesmanship by putting learners’ interests initially.

Alausa declared the Federal government’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted access to quality education in spite of security challenges, stressing that attempts to interrupt education through violence would not prosper.

“Our kids will remain in school, and we will continue to inform them. We will not catch terror. This administration remains resolute in facing insecurity with every available resource and making sure that our schools continue to function as safe locations for teaching and knowing,” he said.

He also paid tribute to teachers across the nation for their patriotism, resilience and dedication, explaining them as vital partners in national development.

The ministry reaffirmed its dedication to working carefully with state federal governments, teachers’ unions, security companies and other stakeholders to reinforce school safety, promote useful discussion and protect every child’s right to continuous, quality education in line with the Restored Hope Program.
