The University of Abuja has actually magnified efforts to improve sickle cell care in Nigeria through a high-level training program focused on advancing treatment approaches and strengthening research partnership.

The organization’s Centre of Excellence in Sickle Cell Illness Research study and Training recently hosted a three-day ACCELERATE Principal Investigators (PIs) training meeting from March 23 to 25, 2026. The hybrid occasion united individuals both physically and virtually for extensive refresher sessions and tactical discussions.

The training centered on improving the reliable use of Hydroxyurea, a commonly acknowledged therapy for handling Sickle Cell Illness, with the objective of enhancing client results across the country.

Speaking at the event, the Director of CESRTA, Obiageli Nnodu, commended the level of cooperation among regional and international stakeholders.

“Their collaboration continues to motivate our dedication to advancing fair, evidence-based take care of sickle cell illness across Nigeria and beyond,” she said.

Nnodu also acknowledged the contributions of Emmanuel Peprah of New York University and the iCTS clinical trials group for their ongoing assistance.

The ACCELERATE training types part of broader efforts by CESRTA and its partners to scale up research, improve treatment protocols, and expand access to life-saving therapies for individuals living with sickle cell illness.
