Since the 2011/2012 winter season term, more than 2,000 high-achieving and skilled students at TU Dortmund University have currently been supported by a “Deutschlandstipendium” (Scholarship of Germany), amongst them scholarship holders from over 30 countries. The regular monthly grant amounts to 300 euros and is paid despite the trainees’ other earnings.
Above all, applicants must show good academic performance, but the choice procedure likewise takes into account how they got to this point in their education journey, their civic engagement and their desire to take on responsibility, along with any considerable individual circumstances. Usually, the selected trainees get funding for 2 semesters, from 1 October to 30 September of the following year. Till the end of the standard duration of research study, scholarship holders can use each year for their financing to be continued.
The “Deutschlandstipendium” is provided in equal parts by the federal government and by personal sponsors, i.e., by companies, associations, structures, alumni, or personal individuals. Scholarship holders therefore do not just benefit economically from the “Deutschlandstipendium”; it also gives them the opportunity to develop important networking contacts with their sponsors. At the traditional scholarship event, for example, donors and scholarship holders learn more about one another and can exchange ideas.
