But for Cele, this achievement goes beyond personal success. He is passionate about transforming education for Deaf children, especially in classrooms where South African Sign Language is not widely understood or effectively used.
His commitment became evident during his teaching practice at Bartimea School for the Deaf during his undergraduate journey, where he demonstrated confidence, strong teaching ability, and a natural connection with his students.
Cele’s journey also highlights a larger issue within the education system, the shortage of educators skilled in South African Sign Language. Graduates like Cele are beginning to change that narrative, bringing both lived experience and professional training into classrooms that need it most.
Reflecting on his journey, he shared that the journey was buiilt through resilence, perseverance and determination to achieve success despite the odds.
“This journey has taught me that success is never a straight path. It is built through struggle, silence, doubt, and courage. I have learned to stay grounded in where I come from, because my roots give meaning to how far I can go,” he said.
He urged anyone reading his tory to remain determined and nver to give up no matter the challenges. ”To anyone reading this, your challenges are not your end, they are your becoming. Hold on, keep going, and believe deeply: anything is possible,” Cele advised.
Now, with his degree in hand, Cele is stepping into a new chapter—focused on teaching, advocacy, and creating a more inclusive education system for Deaf learners.
