Suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on Monday attacked Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba City Government Location of Borno State, snatching an unspecified variety of trainees who were sitting for the National Examinations Council (NECO) evaluations.
According to reports, the insurgents stormed the school at about 9:00 a.m., firing sporadically into the air and causing panic among trainees and personnel before blending away an unknown number of candidates into the bush.
Confirming the occurrence, the representative for the Borno State Authorities Command, ASP Nahum Daso, revealed that a number of students remained unaccounted for following the attack.
“At about 9 a.m., an undefined number of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists attacked a secondary school and shot sporadically into the air. During the attack, an undefined number of trainees were abducted, while some are still missing out on,” Daso stated.
The police spokesperson, however, kept in mind that the command could not instantly confirm reports declaring that an instructor was killed throughout the attack.
He included that security firms had introduced a coordinated operation to rescue the abducted trainees and nab the perpetrators.
According to Daso, workers of the Nigerian military, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and the Police Location Leader in Askira/Uba have been released to comb close-by forests looking for the victims.
The most recent attack has heightened issues over the safety of schools and trainees in Borno State, particularly as candidates continue to sit for important nationwide assessments amid remaining security obstacles in parts of the North-East.
The event took place in Borno State and involved candidates sitting for assessments carried out by the National Examinations Council.
