The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Plateau State University, Bokkos chapter, has started an indefinite strike following the failure of the institution’s management to fix its outstanding needs.
The decision was taken on Wednesday at a congress conference held after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university authorities on August 11.
In a statement signed by the chapter’s Chairperson, Vincent D. Choji, and Secretary, Lomka Kopdiya, the union stated the university administration had not sufficiently attended to the issues included in its six-point need.
Among the issues raised by the speakers is the requirement for the university to start the Contributory Pension Scheme and completely carry out the 2025 arrangement reached between the Federal Government and ASUU.
The union is likewise requiring the payment of exceptional privileges going back to January 1, 2026, as well as 22 months’ financial obligations of the 25/35 per cent wage award.

Other demands include the arrangement of safe and safe and secure lodging for staff, the building and construction of trenches around the university’s boundary fence and an end to the supposed intimidation of union authorities.
ASUU stated the failure of the university management to sufficiently attend to the issues left the union without any option but to embark on industrial action.
“Congress is persuaded that the compound of our needs on all six products has not been satisfactorily attended to,” the declaration said.
The union included that its choice followed approval from the National Executive Council of ASUU.
Consequently, all members of the union have been advised to suspend academic activities at the university till additional notification.
