The University of Ibadan (UI) has retained its position as the leading Nigerian university in the current Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, with the University of Lagos (UNILAG) following closely behind.
The July 2026 edition examined 32,148 universities and college organizations worldwide, placing UI 1,291 st internationally and initially amongst Nigerian organizations.
UNILAG inhabited the second position nationally, ranking 1,355 th worldwide. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, came 3rd in Nigeria and 1,397 th internationally, while Covenant University, Ota, protected fourth location nationally with a worldwide position of 1,522.
Webometrics launches its university ranking twice a year and thinks about aspects such as an organization’s online visibility, openness and research excellence. The assessment is created to determine how successfully universities make their scholastic knowledge and research outputs available through the internet.

Harvard maintains worldwide lead
At the worldwide level, Harvard University topped the July 2026 Webometrics ranking, keeping its position ahead of Stanford University.
The United States controlled the upper end of the table, with seven American universities featuring among the 10 highest-ranked organizations.

The strong proving by American universities highlights their supremacy in the ranking’s assessment of online exposure, availability of scholastic info and research study presence.
Harvard inhabited the primary position, with Stanford following in second place. MIT finished the top 5 together with Oxford and the University of Washington.
