The Federal government has authorized the recruitment of 3,252 validated Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers into the federal public service, ending years of uncertainty for educators who have served in Federal Unity Colleges and Technical Colleges without permanent visits.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, revealed the approval in Abuja on Thursday, describing the decision as a major action toward dealing with the relentless lack of teachers in federal secondary schools while recognising the dedication of long-serving PTA instructors.
According to the minister, the affected instructors were validated through a nationwide screening workout conducted by an inter-ministerial committee before being advised for regularisation. They will be absorbed into the federal workforce under the cadres of Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers, and Technical Instructors.
Alausa said President Bola Tinubu authorized the recruitment to reinforce mentor and learning in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges, keeping in mind that much of the beneficiaries had actually served for nearly 25 years without enjoying the benefits of permanent government work.
He assured the teachers that the regularisation procedure would be transparent, fair, and in line with recognized public service rules and due procedure.
The minister stressed that improving the quality of education starts with investing in instructors, including that the administration remains committed to making sure every kid in federal colleges is taught by qualified, encouraged, and professionally supported teachers.
The recruitment is the latest in a series of reforms by the Federal government targeted at enhancing Nigeria’s education sector through enhanced teacher welfare, capacity building, and efforts to bridge staffing gaps in public schools. It likewise follows previous initiatives to enhance technical and professional education and broaden digital learning infrastructure throughout the nation.
