Previous Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has actually officially assumed office as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Ogundipe was officially inaugurated on Friday at the head office of the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja, where he got his letter of visit, marking the start of his period as chairman of the commission’s governing board.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had actually appointed Ogundipe to the position on June 22, following the resignation of Emeritus Professor Olufemi Aina, who stepped down less than a year after presuming office.
Speaking after the inauguration, Ogundipe revealed appreciation to President Tinubu for the self-confidence reposed in him and vowed to contribute to the advancement of Nigeria’s university education system.
In a declaration shared on his Facebook page, the previous UNILAG vice-chancellor described the visit as a benefit and guaranteed to discharge his responsibilities with commitment.
“Today, with deep appreciation and a sober sense of duty, I was formally inaugurated as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission,” he stated.
He added, “I wish to thank the President for this honour and the chance to serve once again. I do not take this for given in any method. I likewise acknowledge Emeritus Professor Aina, whose service laid the ground we will build on in this commission.”
Ogundipe mentioned that one of his significant concerns would be to strengthen Nigeria’s university system and ensure that degrees granted by Nigerian universities are globally competitive, reaffirming his commitment to improving the quality and international acknowledgment of college in the country.
