Soldiers of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in cooperation with personnel of the Nigeria Cops Mobile Force (MOPOL), have foiled an attempted mass kidnapping of trainees by believed ISWAP terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, rescuing 46 trainees.
The advancement was revealed in a statement released on Sunday by the Performing Military Details Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni.
According to the statement, the college, which is currently being used as a short-term hostel for trainees of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno, came under attack at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
The armed force stated the terrorists apparently got to the facility with the support of suspected partners before attempting to abduct the trainees.
Security personnel stationed at the school immediately engaged the attackers in a fierce weapon fight, while the Sector 3 Quick Response Force (QRF) promptly strengthened the location.
The collaborated action by the soldiers and cops forced the insurgents to desert the operation and get away without taking any of the students.
The military validated that all 46 students were effectively rescued and evacuated to Kinnasara Barracks in Monguno, where they received medical attention and were licensed medically steady.
However, the statement divulged that some trainees lost their lives after being struck by erratic gunfire from the terrorists throughout the exchange of fire. Authorities did not immediately disclose the precise number of casualties.
Operation HADIN KAI stated efforts are continuous to track down the leaving terrorists and examine the alleged involvement of collaborators in the attack.
