
The Federal government has actually released five flagship World Bank-backed programmes targeted at speeding up human capital advancement, decreasing hardship, reinforcing health care, improving governance and broadening financial chances across Nigeria.
The programmes were unveiled on Friday at the State Home Conference Centre in Abuja as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Restored Hope Agenda.
Represented by the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, President Tinubu said the initiatives show the administration’s commitment to translating economic reforms into concrete benefits for Nigerians through tactical investments in education, health care, social defense and institutional development.
The President reaffirmed that education stays central to the Restored Hope Agenda, stressing that no country can rise above the quality of its education.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, explained education as Nigeria’s biggest financial investment, noting that the Human being Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity for Quality Basic Education for All (HOPE-EDU) Programme represents a transformative financial investment of about $552.18 million, collectively funded by the World Bank and the Global Collaboration for Education (GPE).
According to Alausa, the program will reinforce fundamental literacy and numeracy, improve teaching quality, broaden access to quality standard education and enhance education management systems nationwide.
He revealed that the initiative will straight benefit nearly 30 million children, support the professional development of 500,000 public main school teachers, and improve mentor and learning in more than 65,000 public primary schools and their School-Based Management Committees across the country.
The minister discussed that the program, which covers all 36 states and the Federal Capital Area, will operate on a results-based financing model that rewards measurable enhancements in learning results. He included that it is designed to reduce discovering poverty, reinforce teacher efficiency, enhance responsibility through robust education information systems and promote evidence-based preparation and effective resource allowance.

Also speaking, World Bank Nation Director, Mathew Verghis, applauded the Federal Government’s commitment to human capital development, stating the programmes were designed to strengthen social security, broaden financial opportunities, improve education and health care outcomes, and support susceptible communities.
He kept in mind that the interventions enhance Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms and show strong collaboration among the Federal government, state governments, city governments and advancement partners in dealing with poverty and the rising expense of living.
The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to offering policy leadership, effective coordination and oversight for the successful application of the HOPE-EDU programme, explaining it as one of the country’s most substantial financial investments in children, instructors, schools and the future workforce.
