Trainees of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Jos have won an overall of 70 million after emerging among the top entertainers at the maiden Nigeria Engineering Olympiad with an artificial intelligence-powered agricultural development.

The trainees, who completed under the banner of Group Fortizo, established a solar-powered robotic gadget efficient in detecting diseases impacting crops such as potato, maize and ginger, allowing farmers to identify infections early and minimize crop losses.

The development earned the team a 20 million start-up grant, while the University of Jos received lab devices worth 50 million for its Professors of Engineering in acknowledgment of the achievement.

The university explained the accomplishment as a significant milestone in promoting innovation and research-driven services to difficulties in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

It likewise revealed plans to team up with Group Fortizo to commercialise the AI-powered farm robot, with the aim of making the technology offered to farmers and supporting increased agricultural performance.

The Nigeria Engineering Olympiad is designed to motivate engineering development and provide young Nigerian inventors with opportunities to develop commercially feasible services to national obstacles.
