
< img src="https://edugist.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/IMG_2180.jpeg"alt =""> A 23-year-old Nigerian medical graduate, Nnani Adaobi Marian, has passed away after sustaining extreme injuries in a Russian airstrike in Kharkiv, Ukraine, simply days before her graduation event.
Adaobi, a student of Kharkiv National Medical University, was critically hurt on June 29, 2026, when Russian forces reportedly dropped aerial bombs on the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv. She initially received treatment in Kharkiv before being transferred to Germany for additional medical care.
In spite of the efforts of doctors in both countries, she died on Sunday, July 5.
Kharkiv National Medical University validated her death in a declaration, explaining her as “a bright, sincere and kind-hearted person” who was understood for her devotion to learning, effort, and passion for assisting others.
According to the university, Adaobi sustained dangerous injuries throughout the attack. Medical teams in Kharkiv and Germany fought to conserve her life, however she eventually caught her injuries.
The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Workplace also revealed acknowledgements to her household, specifying that physicians fought to save her up until the very end.
Adaobi had actually been studying at Kharkiv National Medical University since 2020. Throughout her research studies, she completed internships at the University of Cambridge and Biruni University in Türkiye.
Reports show that at the time of the airstrike, Adaobi and her good friend, Fatima Huseynova, were on their method to a graduation photoshoot. Fatima was killed at the scene, while Adaobi was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries.
The airstrike reportedly left 12 other people hurt.
