
Federal Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borikiri, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has become the general winner of the 2026 Nigeria LNG Science Competition, exceeding 6 other schools in the acutely contested event.
This was announced in Port Harcourt at the end of the contest’s grand finale, sponsored by Nigeria LNG in collaboration with the Rivers State Ministry of Education and the Science Educators Association of Nigeria.
7 schools participated in the strenuous contest, which included concerns in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and wildcard categories.
GCSS Borikiri emerged general winner with 57,189 points, ahead of Niger Delta Science School, which positioned 2nd with 49,135 points.
Enitonia High School, Port Harcourt, completed third with a total of 47,686 points.
Other taking part schools were Government Secondary School, Eneka, which finished fourth; Community Secondary School, Rumuomasi, fifth; Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Borokiri, sixth; and Comprehensive High School, Alesa, Eleme, seventh.
The first-, second-, and third-place winning schools were talented science laboratory devices, science books, and other concealed benefits, along with individual laptop computers, science books, and other items.
Similarly, 3 schools at the competitors became winners in the science project exhibition.
While Government Girls Secondary School, Oromenike, took very first position in the classification with 83.3 typical score, Comprehensive Secondary School, Ogidigba, came 2nd, and Government Girls Secondary School, Finimah, took 3rd position.
In her welcome address, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Advancement, Sophia Horsfall, said the program acted as a genuine driver for excellence.
Horsfall further stated the company upgraded the competition to strengthen fundamental understanding in Mathematics, Info and Communication Innovation, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology across a wider scope.
She stated that as the world keeps evolving, so has the vision for the competition.
“We have transitioned from a science quiz to a science contest. We want trainees to be able to use their clinical understanding to solving real-world issues.
“The world has enough fast talkers; it is now time to empower the problem-solvers who will drive our technological future.
“Our objective is to go beyond books, triggering the vital thinking and development that our world so desperately needs. The journey to this grand finale has actually been a rigorous test of ability and strength.
“Over the past couple of weeks, senior secondary school trainees from across the state have browsed the tough Olympiad and champion stages.”
She continued: “With strong competitors and incredibly high requirements, the 2026 edition brings a renewed objective– powering tomorrow through science and innovative options.
“When I look at the girls here today representing their schools along with the boys, it provides me a specific sense of pride.”
Horsfall noted that a couple of years earlier, an all-girls group won the competitors, but stressed that development understands no gender and skill has no limits.

“For our world to discover the options it requires, the sparkle of students everywhere in this space is needed.
“Our finalists, when you take a look at your jobs or get asked questions throughout the contest, do not just see it as a competitors however as a blueprint for the future,” she stated.
Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor, applauded the management of the Nigeria LNG for its steady commitment to the improvement of education and clinical development in Nigeria.
Dr Nwagor stated through efforts such as the science contest, NLNG continues to purchase the future of youths and the sustainable development of the country.
While describing the style of this year’s competition, “Powering Tomorrow: Science and Innovation Service”, Nwagor said it’s both timely and motivating.
He stated, “It advises us that the future we want can only be achieved through deliberate financial investments in knowledge, research, development, and technological development.”
Nwagor even more stated education stays the structure upon which clinical innovation prospers, explaining that it equips young minds with vital thinking skills, imagination, problem-solving capabilities, and the self-confidence to transform ideas into practical options.
The commissioner said the administration of Guv Siminalayi Fubara stayed dedicated to strengthening the education sector through enhanced infrastructure, instructor capacity structure, curriculum improvement, and the promotion of Science, Innovation, Engineering and Mathematics education.
