Given that 2013, the EPS has actually every year honored two female physicists with the Emmy Noether Award– recognizing impressive accomplishments in research, teaching, and science interaction while acting as role models to influence women to pursue careers in science. For instance, in 2014 the award was presented to the French– Swedish physicist Professor Anne L’Huillier, who was later bestowed the Nobel Reward for Physics in 2023. This year, the EPS jury applauds Professor Doris Reiter “for her groundbreaking contributions to theoretical photonics and quantum technology, her transformative leadership, and her innovative public outreach, as exemplified by the SUPER scheme and the QuanTour job.”
Doris Reiter has been at TU Dortmund University considering that 2022, leading an independent research study group in theoretical condensed matter physics as an adjunct professor. Among her primary research focuses is the theoretical description of producing premium photons needed for quantum communication. Her deal with the so-called SUPER plan information an innovative excitation method in which two laser pulses communicate in a targeted manner to significantly improve the photon yield and reduce disruptive environmental impacts. This plan has been welcomed globally and has opened up a brand-new field of research study in both theory and experiment.
In addition, Teacher Reiter is deeply committed to promoting emerging scientific talent and to science communication. At the Department of Physics, she heads the Dortmund Graduate School of Physics, and she has been actively involved with the German Physical Society (DPG, Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft) for several years. In the framework of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology 2025, she started the outreach project “QuanTour”, in which a quantum light source travels throughout Europe. The project has been included in a number of global media outlets. With the recognition awarded to Professor Reiter, the exposure of physics research at TU Dortmund University is reinforced on a global level.
