The Federal Ministry of Education has unveiled the Nigerian Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI), a technology-driven platform targeted at enhancing education preparation, improving student tracking, and lowering the number of out-of-school kids across the country.
The effort was unveiled throughout a National Stakeholders’ Workshop on NEDI kept in Abuja.
Speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the platform as a landmark reform designed to provide Nigeria with an unified and reputable national education data system.
According to the minister, the platform will incorporate information from standard, secondary, technical, vocational and tertiary institutions, along with major examination and education companies consisting of the Joint Admissions and Enlisting Board, West African Examinations Council, National Examinations Council and NELFUND.
Dr. Alausa described that the cloud-based and AI-enabled platform would act as a single source of fact for Nigeria’s education sector, allowing government and stakeholders to make evidence-based decisions.
He even more mentioned that the platform’s National Learner Identity Number, which will be connected to the National Identity Number, would help track students from enrolment to work while suppressing identity fraud, evaluation malpractice and the activities of so-called “wonder centres.”
The minister revealed that more than 32 million students and over 220,000 schools throughout 21 states had currently been recorded on the platform.
The Federal government repeated its commitment to releasing technology and trusted data systems to build a transparent, inclusive and internationally competitive education sector.
