
The Colleges of Education Academic Personnel Union (COEASU) has gotten in touch with the Federal Government to present more attractive incentives to enhance registration into Teacher Education and Agricultural Science programmes across the country.
The union said the current policy by the Joint Admissions and Admission Board (JAMB) granting waivers of the Unified Tertiary Admission Examination (UTME) for prospects seeking admission into Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) farming programs, though good, would not be sufficient to reverse the declining interest in the courses.
Speaking throughout the discussion of a communiqué released at the end of the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) conference in Abuja, COEASU President, Ahmed Lawan Bazza, worried the requirement for detailed rewards efficient in making the mentor profession and farming studies more attractive to young Nigerians.
According to him, the stable drop in applications for Instructor Education and Agricultural Science courses has actually become a major issue, explaining the programmes as among the least subscribed in tertiary institutions.
The union prompted the Federal government to supply improved well-being packages, scholarships, work assurances, and other inspiring advantages to draw in more students into the sectors.
