
The University of Lagos, UNILAG, has actually taken another action toward completely restoring its Students’ Union with the election of a new President and General Secretary for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The election, hung on Friday, March 6, 2026, was coordinated by the Directorate of Trainee Affairs under the leadership of the Dean, Johnson Agunsoye.
The voting exercise happened at the Common Room of Moremi Hall on the university campus.
According to university authorities, the election formed part of the shift framework developed to reestablish the Trainees’ Union after a period of inactivity.

Eligible citizens were drawn from the existing set of Professors Presidents within the institution, in line with the guidelines authorized for the remediation procedure.
At the conclusion of the workout, Bolaji Akinpelu of the Faculty of Arts was elected Students’ Union President after protecting nine votes.
Daniel Solomon of the Faculty of Computing and Informatics likewise polled 9 votes to emerge as the General Secretary.
Speaking after the election, Professor Agunsoye explained the procedure as a fulfilment of the commitment made by the Vice-Chancellor, Folasade T. Ogunsola, to assist in the return of the Trainees’ Union in the university.
He noted that the repair of the union is meant to supply trainees with a platform to express their views and get involved actively in school governance.
According to him, the effort is also targeted at preparing trainees for leadership functions and motivating them to develop solution-driven methods to concerns impacting the university community.
