Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, has emerged as among the winners and recipients of the 2025 EU Grant under ERASMUS for the facility of a Master of Science degree programme in Smart Farming and
IoT in Farming, called MESITA. OAU belongs to a consortium comprised of 4 Nigerian universities, three European universities, and a cloud financing digital community organisation. The project carries the code MESITA: ERASMUS-EDU-2025-CBHE-STRAND-2.

in Nigeria. It started in Abuja in November 2025. The programme is designed to gear up graduates with wise agricultural abilities; it likewise promotes sustainable and climate-friendly farming practices. The job also motivates university-industry cooperation and supports entrepreneurship and employability in the clever farming sector.
Locations covered in the curriculum
The curriculum consists of:
- ingrained systems
- AI applications
- wise agricultural practices
The program is indicated to support understanding and technology transfer from the EU to Nigeria. That transfer is expected to drive digital development and sustainable development in agriculture.
Expected effect of the programme
MESITA is set to address the instructional gap in precision farming.
The job also aims to improve agricultural productivity and effectiveness. Its wider objectives consist of support for food security, task creation, environmental sustainability, gender equality in agribusiness, and climate change efforts.
