ABUJA, FCT– The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has provided a fresh call to the Federal Government to urgently conclude all ongoing settlements with university unions to avoid additional instability within the country’s tertiary education system.
The charge was consisted of in an Eid-el-Fitr message released on Friday, March 20, 2026, by the union’s National President, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim.
While congratulating the Muslim Ummah on the successful completion of the Ramadan quick, Associate Ibrahim cautioned that the continued commitment of university staff despite extreme economic hardships should not be taken for granted by the authorities.
The SSANU President revealed deep concern over the lengthy delays in the renegotiation process involving both SSANU and the Non-Academic Personnel Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU).
He noted that these delays have fostered an environment of unpredictability, undermining the self-confidence of employees who are vital to the administrative and technical functioning of Nigerian universities.
Ibrahim stressed that the stability of the higher education sector is inextricably connected to the welfare of its workforce.
Resolving the more comprehensive national context, the SSANU leader highlighted the disastrous impact of increasing costs of living on university workers and their families. He advised the federal government at all levels to prioritise policies that restore the acquiring power of the Nigerian worker.

Beyond financial issues, Comrade Ibrahim revealed extensive sorrow over recent security breaches, specifically citing the tragic bombings in Maiduguri.
Describing the occasions as “ridiculous acts of violence,” he extended condolences to the afflicted families and called for a more robust national strategy to secure lives and bring back peace throughout the federation.
Reviewing the spiritual essence of Ramadan, the union president described the period as one of renewal and submission to the will of Allah.
He advised Nigerians to embrace the ideals of unity and fairness, stressing that a just and prosperous country can only be developed through collective effort and shared respect throughout ethnic and local divides.
“As we commemorate, we need to stay unfaltering, enthusiastic, and dedicated to the perfects we represent,” Ibrahim mentioned. “Much better days need to not just be hoped for, but actively pursued.”
The message concluded with prayers for the acceptance of the faithful’s sacrifices and continued blessings for the stability of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
