Victoria Ariyo, who was serving under the Abeokuta South City Government Area (LGA), apparently passed away last Tuesday after undergoing an abortion procedure that led to severe complications. Her remains were subsequently laid to rest at Kobape Cemetery along Kobape-Sagamu Roadway.
The incident has triggered prevalent concern, coming hardly a month after another corps member, Adeleye Mary, passed away under strange situations in the exact same LGA. Mary, who was serving at as her Location of Main Project (PPA), was discovered lifeless in her residence near her office.
A source familiar with the earlier occurrence stated, “The first woman passed away at her residence, which is not far from her PPA. They discovered her lifeless body in the apartment or condo and, up till now, no one can inform the reason for her death.”
In the most recent case, police have apprehended Abass Olalekan, the Local Government Inspector (LGI) for Abeokuta South, over his supposed involvement in situations causing Ariyo’s death. Sources declare that Olalekan was in a romantic relationship with the deceased, which resulted in pregnancy and its subsequent termination.
A cops source, who confirmed the arrest, specified, “That is the truth in concern,” including that the case raises ethical and legal concerns about relationships in between officials and corps members under their guidance.
Confirming the advancement, the source stated, “He remains in our custody at the command’s head office, Eleweran, Abeokuta.”
Authorities are anticipated to continue examinations into both events, as issues grow over the safety and welfare of corps members serving in the area.
