
The Vice-Chancellor of (NSUK), , on Thursday hosted a historic joint fast-breaking event bringing together Muslim and Christian members of the university community in a demonstration of interfaith harmony.
The event, held on March 12, 2026, at the university’s Assembly Hall in , brought together Muslims observing and Christians observing to share a meal at sunset.
Speaking with the Information and Protocol Unit, Professor Liman described the simultaneous observance of the two holy seasons as a unique moment for reflection and unity within the institution.
“The overlapping of Ramadan and Lent is no coincidence; it is a symbolic call for adherents of both major religions to unite and reflect on the values of faith, compassion, and peaceful coexistence,” she said.
The Vice-Chancellor also urged members of the university community to support government efforts aimed at improving the welfare of citizens, noting that national prosperity requires collective spiritual and social support.
She used the occasion to deliver a message of peace and institutional loyalty, encouraging staff and students to embrace empathy and mutual care.
“Be your brother’s keeper,” she urged, stressing the need for members of the university community to look out for one another regardless of religious or cultural differences.
Professor Liman also called for sustained support for the university’s management in order to maintain the institution’s progress and stability.
Participants at the event described the gathering as a significant moment that reflected the spirit of unity within the university, often referred to as a “mini-Nigeria” because of its diverse community.
Special prayers were also offered for peace in and for the continued growth and development of the university.
