According to Ejike, they were among 553 candidates utilized after a recruitment exercise authorized by the Federal Government in October 2025.
He explained that the candidates successfully finished interviews, paperwork, medical screening and biometric enrolment carried out under the Government Integrated Financial Management Info System (GIFMIS) by authorities from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation before receiving visit letters in February 2026.
Ejike said the present Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ursula Akanwa, assumed workplace while the recruitment process was being concluded and initially assured the freshly recruited personnel that their appointments were valid since they had finished all needed procedures.
He added that the workers resumed work and were appointed to different departments, with some resigning from previous jobs in anticipation of a steady profession at the university.
However, he declared that after months without pay, the university management informed them that the employment waiver given to the organization covered only 426 positions, leaving 127 workers outside the approved quota.
According to him, while 426 workers ultimately received income payments, the remaining workers were instructed to stop reporting for task.
Ejike even more alleged that the afflicted personnel were later on invited to a conference where they were asked to surrender their identity cards and sign disengagement letters.
He claimed that some workers signed the documents under pressure after security personnel supposedly avoided them from leaving the venue.

The employees have actually appealed to President Tinubu, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, the National Assembly, the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Academic Staff Union of Universities and pertinent human rights organisations to investigate the matter and facilitate their reinstatement.
